About Me
I am an experienced counsellor holding Accredited Level status with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. I began my training in London at the Gestalt Centre and then at the University of Winchester. My training means that my work with clients often focuses on how patterns of behaviour or types of relationships have developed over time and whether they are still useful in the present.
My main focus is on how you are feeling now and what is holding you back from the life you want to lead. Everyone has inner resources to build a fulfilling life, but sometimes we need help to find them, to make sense of things and identify new solutions. Or maybe what is needed is the time and safe space to heal and connect to yourself.
This type of work is only possible if, together, we can build a supportive, trusting, and honest relationship. This means I take time to explore, understand and respect how you see yourself, the world and the people around you. It also means that I sometimes pay attention to our relationship as an example of how other relationships in your life might work.
Experience and qualifications
I have a Diploma in Gestalt Counselling which is complemented by courses in Transactional Analysis , Somatic Trauma Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. As part of my membership I am committed to ongoing professional development and ethical practice. I have been working as a counsellor for more than a decade; working with hundreds of individuals in thousands of sessions.
It has been a winding path to finding my purpose as a therapist - starting with a History degree, going on to study law, diverting to the Civil Service and then ten years in the charity sector. I qualified as a counsellor in 2013. I am always learning, either formally (by regularly going on courses) or informally from my clients and peers. It’s important to me that I continue to learn and grow as a professional counsellor in order to provide the most effective support possible.
I receive regular supervision for work from a qualified counselling supervisor which ensures I am working to best meet the needs of my clients. I also hold professional insurance and a full DBS clearance.
As an Accredited level member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy I am bound by its Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
